It’s Chisel Season in 2019

by Marcus M.

The beginning of the year marks a season of change for many people. Promises are made New Year’s resolutions are created and goals are set. We as Christians are continuously going through seasons of change no matter what time of year it is, because we have God’s Spirit living within. Yes, The Holy Spirit is our comforter and our guide but He was also sent to convict the world of sin righteousness and judgement, and this includes the life of the believer.

The Holy Spirit wants to change and mold us each and everyday. As we submit to God and pursue Him we should notice convictions that were not present when we were walking in darkness. Now watching sensual things on television or on the internet results in a disturbance in our peace because the Holy Spirit in us has been grieved. All of a sudden we aren’t just mindful of our actions but our motives are important. For example I can remember having to give remarks at a church gathering, what I said exactly isn’t important but I received a round of applause from the congregation. After smiling and walking back to my seat I heard a still small voice say, “you did that for the praise of man”. I felt such a need to repent it was unbearable, but at the same time I was comforted in knowing that the Spirit of God was working on me and in me. See it was revealed to me that God is chiseling me with His holy hammer and chipping away things that should not be there. The chisel may sting at first but the end product will be a beautiful masterpiece. The Holy Spirit in us will prune the branches in our lives causing us to bare fruit conforming us to the image of Jesus.

Jesus is one with the Holy Spirit and is in full agreement. His mission is to rid us of anything and everything that is not meant to be in us, creating change. In the Gospel According to John chapter 2, Jesus found the temple money changers, and people selling oxen, sheep, and doves at unfair prices. Jesus made a whip and drove all those people and things out of the temple. In The New Covenant the Word of God is clear that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost! (refer to 1 Corinthians 6:19). See Jesus wants to drive out anything in US that is not supposed to be there! Our pride, doubt, fear, lust, confusion, must go! Let the body of Christ start off the New Year right by full submitting to the power of the Holy Spirit in us, and unlike many New Year’s resolutions this promise will not be broken. God will accomplish His will in our lives.
